HAS WHERE YOU LIVE HAD SUCH A CLIMATE CHANGE THAT IT COULD CAUSE A FOOD SHORTAGE IN THE MAIN (195 hits)

COMMERCIAL CROPS GROWN THERE???? I ASK BECAUSE, THE COMMERCIAL GROWERS OF CHERRYS AND TOMATOES HERE IN NORTHERN CALIF. ARE EXPECTING THE WORST DUE TO RECORD LOW TEMPATURES FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR AND RAIN.

Oops, and snow...

tomatoes are plants in the nightshade family which means they grow at night. For them to be able to produce the temper ature at night must be above a certain degree of heat. the cold weather has cause the crop that have already been planted at their usual time in the spring now must be pulled up and more tomatoes planted.

The cherries if rained on in a certain stage of growth they will swell up which is not good. It cost so much to sort out the fruit to get rid of the bad cheries it is less costly to not even bother to harvest them. Now if a cherry grower is lucky enough to have gotten helicopters to spent time over their fruit trees to dry them out there is a chance to avoid this...but this also will affect the price at the market.

All of the helicopters have been booked, and, my hearing about this on tonight's local evening news caused me to see if any of your areas are having this problem.
