Have We All Gone Numb? (564 hits)

How many shootings, how many kidnappings, how many senseless deaths will it take for people to wake up? How many homeless people do we need to wake up and do something? Just how many dropouts, teen pregnancies, how much bullying, and suicides do we need to move into action? I know—there is a prediction that the planet will reverse its axis and we will all be toast—that’s a plan. Maybe it is a good idea to wait until the youth of today are grown before we concern ourselves with the damage that is being done to them by having metal detectors and policemen in their schools and living in fear—fear is a great molder of personalities. Maybe we should sit around and just wonder how our young people will make it in tomorrow’s world with an inferior education and let’s wait to find out the affects of teaching to the tests instead teaching them to think critically. We can wait—we’ll probably be dead anyway.

The plates a shifting beneath our feet just like an earthquake it is almost imperceptible, but it is shifting nonetheless. Having been in an earthquake, I can tell you, once it starts there is nothing much that you can do about it accept ride it out and clean up the damage afterwards. There are lots of things that you can do before it happens to retrofit the areas that are likely to be affected. That is what I am asking you to do now. We need to retrofit our families, our communities, and our world to minimize the damage that will be done if we don’t make some changes right now.

Here’s what I know and love about people—they will rise to the occasion when disaster strikes—be it earthquakes, a tsunami, tornados, hurricanes, or any dramatic emergency. We run to the scene, we raise money, we donate clothes and food—we unify for a common cause. Now I am asking us to EMERGE before the emergency hits. I am calling for you to wake-up. My call is to baby-boomers who have the wisdom and resources to lead and to younger people who have the stamina and energy to run this course. I am calling out “spiritual seekers” who have spent years focusing on self growth, to turn outward and to begin to serve from their enlightened insight. We need all hands on deck.

I am not going to tell you what to do—let Spirit be your guide—but I am asking you to do something. Being a world changer is a daunting task if you are trying to do it by yourself or trying to figure it out for yourself. That’s what this call to unity is about. I think we collectively can agree on a few things and that is that we all want peace, love, joy, health, and prosperity. Anyone who doesn’t want these things please feel free to just go back to sleep, but I promise you, the wave of change will eventually sweep over you.

This past weekend a 6 year old got a knife from his home and swung it at my grandsons, 2 people were shot and killed in a nightclub, and I read about 2 small children being found in a dumpster after being reported taken by their mother’s boyfriend. I am, quite frankly, pissed! I am well past waiting and hoping. Join our community www.7principles.ning.com take the 7 Principles Pledge, and one of the other steps, and be about the business of change, healing, and purposeful living. We will create a future that is worth living. It is a matter of consciousness. Wake-up!

I tried the link you posted but it seems to be broken. My special concern is addressing the inequality in internet access in our society. According to the last census 69% of white households have internet access vs. 51% of black households. You speak of a think tank and I think this would be a major concern given the value of the internet for education and communication, as we have here.

Hello Barbara,

Please remember that we are descendents of slaves. It is mentally difficult to accept that Black Americans are not sufficiently intelligent to grasp the gravity to what you are saying.

What I would suggest that you do is plant the seed of sovereignty in the minds of Black Americans you meet. Or to have complete independence from White America on a portion of this continent that we could call our very own country with borders. We want to pursue Life, Liberty, Happiness, and Prosperity for our selves. Thus, forget about the complaining and whining.

This portion, we are due to inherit is from our ancestors. White Americans will be hard-pressed what they will be happy that we inherit our portion of this continent.

Everything I say is going to happen.

Our sovereignty is eminent.

What say you?

We have been numb since the Death of Dr. King. Until all of us are at the table with a plan to help stop the downfall of the Black community things will not change. We can talk about what is wrong and why it is happening. We need real answers on how to change things. We must start at the bottom and ask those who are most effect by the shooting and other violence. What do they need. Then we must help may education a top priority in every house hold. Then we need to change the thinking of who a role model such be. As we move up to each group and address their needs things will change. We must all become united for change. It can not be just a few as it has been in the past. we all must take responsibility for what is now happening in the Black Community. Its time to change the negative images we have to positive ones.
As a single mother I refused to be put into any category while raising my son who is now 24. I made education a priority in my house and made sure he was around good male role models. I showed him all the things that where outside of the Black community. I told him that he could be anything he wanted to be. I never limited him.
This is was not hard even for a mom on welfare. We can have all of the State of Black America conferences with scholars and politicians and business professionals . Saying what is wrong and what is need but if those who have been beaten down over the don't hear or see anything better there won't be a change.

Me, I am still waiting for that missing child report on tv and the amber alert when a Black child goes missing...we first have to know about it...none of the children I know do illegal drugs, drop out of school, get arrested, are in gangs, etc. you know all of the profiles of our people...we do not fit any of then, so does this leave Black people like me out of the picture...

Mozell, Clark I fully agreewith the both of you... because as long as we in our own Black community continue to be so willing to not refuse to abide by and agree with ALL BLACKS (and eventhough I have no way to know 'all' of any persons) are never seen by the mass media, be it tv, print or movies as individuals. As in no way able to be constructive average citizens any place on this planet ...then those like me will have to continue to ask my own Black community "AM 'I' INCLUDED IN YOUR BLOG'S OUT LOOK"!!!

IF WE OUR OWNSELVES CAN NOT INCLUDE OUR OWN MEMBERS IN JUST THIS WEB SITE HOW CAN WE EXPECT TO EVEN ASK FOR EQUALITY AT ALL HERE IN AMERICA OR ANY PLACE ELSE????!!?(smile)

Thank you Janice, and may I add to your most worthy and much needed comment about our education should be filled with Black pride by making sure that our children are taught both at home and in public/private schools our real and true BIA's history...

Our knowing our own culture will get us out of that White man's need to blame the single mother for all of the wrongs, period. This is all to get us away form our proud culture where it is the female that is most revered in our race. Our females have never had to go to the Federal government to be counted it is natural that the female is the center of wisdom and the first provider of FOOD, breast milk and shelter, which is the warmth of her arms reasuring us that all is well.(smile)

Thank you again Janice for this reminder of mother as teacher and first role model...
