A Candid View of Life With A Brain Disorder (1113 hits)

Among all the ailments preventing many American communities from becoming strong and viable such as drug and alcohol addiction, poverty, teen pregnancy, crime, unemployment, lack of higher education, and physical disorders, untreated brain disorders have also impeded the building of a strong and viable community.

Brain disorders, often referred to as mental illnesses, transcend all races and ethnicities and there is no cure. Brain disorders possibly occur when chemicals in the brain become imbalanced due to genetics or drug and alcohol abuse or stressful and disturbing events in an individual’s life. Although there are many, the major brain disorders are: Schizophrenia, Anxiety or Panic Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Clinical Depression, and Bipolar Disorder. When the symptoms of each brain disorder are persistent for at least two weeks to six months, professional mental healthcare treatment is necessary. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), these brain disorders are treatable and with treatment, an individual affected by the mental illness can live an improved quality of life. Since the inspiration of one story of triumph can greatly influence others, my story really is colorless. The first step is breaking the silence of suffering alone.

In my book, "Cooling Well Water: A Collection of Work By An African-American Bipolar Woman," I discuss more candidly the journey from living a life with untreated Bipolar to living my life with a treated Bipolar diagnosis.

Since blogging about Bipolar and brain disorders in general on Black Health, my eyes have opened even more to just how urgent it is to make this topic a household topic right up thee with High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, and AIDS/HIV. I believe "Cooling Well Water: A Collection of Work By An African-American Bipolar Woman" does just that, too.

As a commitment to further inspiring others to seek treatment, I candidly reveal my life to readers in my book, "Cooling Well Water: A Collection of Work By An African-American Bipolar Woman" and I am extending the release of my book to my faithful Subscribers here on Black Health and my other networks before I begin mass public promotions!

On Tuesday, March 17, 2009, the book will be available for purchase. The List Retail Price will be $15.95, plus .06 tax, plus $2.30 S&H. I invite you to be among the first to secure your purchase on March 17, 2009, as the quantity of books is limited!

Then I will shift my time to discussing the relevant topics covered in my book, "Cooling Well Water: A Collection of Work By An African-American Bipolar Woman" ISBN 13-978-0-9754612-0-4 on another site to be announced at a later time.

Thank you all for your loyalty to my Blogs and I hope together we all make a positive difference in building our homes, families, and communities by being sure we seek and obtain mental wellness.
