Expire Date: 03/07/2026

Job Description
French & Spanish Teacher
Lawrence Academy (LA) is a boarding and day school in Groton, MA, serving 400 students in grades 9-12. LA enjoys its heritage as one of the oldest independent schools in the country while embracing a contemporary student-centered approach that supports its mission. In LA’s tightly knit environment, students are supported and encouraged to exercise their minds, discover their voices, learn creatively, and take their own initiative. The academic program is uniquely hands-on and allows students to discover how their education can be applied in daily life.

LA is seeking an experienced and energetic full-time teacher to teach both French and Spanish beginning in August 2026. The student-centered French and Spanish language curricula at Lawrence Academy require students to develop communication skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening through the study of literature, history, culture, and grammar.

Candidates must have backgrounds in both French and Spanish, with a strong preference for those who have classroom experience. This position will require teaching four sections. The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach throughout the grades 9-12 French and Spanish curricula. Candidates must also be very comfortable working one-on-one with students and be open and accessible for extra help; important components of being a teacher at Lawrence Academy. Candidates should also embrace developing learning strategies to help a range of students to achieve success.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, candidates must be willing to engage in all aspects of boarding school life from curricular, co-curricular (primarily athletics), and extracurricular programs at the school. Campus housing is available for faculty positions. Interested candidates should expect to live in a dormitory, but on-campus (non-dorm) or off-campus housing might be an available alternative. All members of the faculty are part of our residential program and have regular weeknight duty and some weekend duties.

Required Qualifications:
• Minimum of bachelor’s degree; an advanced degree is preferred.
• Must have 2-5 years of teaching experience.
• Preference will be given to candidates interested in contributing to all aspects of boarding school life.
• Successfully complete required background checks.

Annual Salary Range: $55,000-$70,000
The salary range listed represents the typical pay range for this role; however, actual compensation may vary based on factors such as the candidate’s skills, experience, education, and market conditions.

To apply for this position, please send your cover letter, resume, and reference list in a single PDF to Libby Margraf, at jobs@lacademy.edu. The email subject line should be “French & Spanish Teacher.” No phone calls please.

Cultural competence is an essential element of teaching and learning at Lawrence Academy. We are therefore seeking individuals who are committed to actively participating in professional development and engaging in our cultural competency programs that are structured to move our community forward equitably and inclusively. We encourage candidates from historically underrepresented groups to apply. The Academy does not discriminate and does not tolerate discrimination on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, age, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, genetic information, veteran or Uniformed Service status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state, or local law.
